Geocache Description:

Placed on one of the 3 Eildon Hills which have great views from the top.

The Eildon Hills dominate the little town of Melrose Beneath them allegedly lies a hidden cave, the most northerly site of Arthur's everlasting sleep. Strangely enough the cave has never been found!

The summit of Eildon North Hill was crowned by the largest hill fort in Scotland. Built in the 10th century BC, this fortified site contained platforms for nearly 300 huts and may have served as a focus for periodic gatherings by the scattered hill communities. When the Romans arrived in the Borders in the late 1st century AD, they built a watch tower on the summit of the hill and the shallow ditch which enclosed it can still be seen today

St Cuthbert's Way crosses the Eildon Hills on its way from Melrose to Lindisfarne

There are numerous places to park around the Eildon hills, somewhere near the small loch on the back road from Melrose to Bowden is best. There are many trails to follow, some of which involve a steep climb and descent, and some parts can be pretty muddy, so wear appropriate footwear! Check the paths out when you get there - the choice of route is yours but would recommend you take in all 3 hills

The cache is placed in amongst the heather on the slope of one of the hills. It should be relatively easy to find

Average size Tupperware box with a selection of goodies - key rings, finger puppets, coaster, magnets, pens, hand warmer, putty, etc.

This is a walk which definitely requires the camera as the views from the top on a clear day are superb. This is also a good walk for the dogs but they must be kept on the lead for the first section of the walk

Enjoy!!
