Geocache Description:

The overall terrain on this cache is relatively level until the very end of the cache location. There will be no need to bushwack at all on this cache.

This is the 6th in a series of Touring Genesee caches that are to be released. In each one of the caches there will be a clue you will need to collect in order to solve where the final in the series is located. This series is designed to have you tour each town in Genesee County and learn a little about its diverse history along the way.

In 2002 Genesee County experienced its Bicentennial Anniversary. In honor of this grand occasion an historical marker was purchased and placed in each of the towns in the county. These familiar blue and yellow markers will be the basis for each cache in the series.

The Town of Byron is made up of several hamlets; South Byron, Byron Center and North Byron which is fondly known as "Pumpkin Hill". It got its nickname because a hotel and tavern that once was located here had a sign in the shape and color of a pumpkin. It burned down in 1904 but the name stayed.
South Byron had the New York Central Railroad built in the 1830-40's, called the "Main Line" from New York City to Chicago. There was a sharp up-grade known as the Byron Grade here. Many heavily loaded freights were assisted up this grade with a separate engine which was known as "the pusher". A spur line, called the West Shore, was built in the 1890's. It left the main line in Churchville and went on to Buffalo.

To reach the final cache in this multi you will need to first arrive at the above posted coordinates. At this location you will need to gather information from the sign in order to proceed. Here you will need to determine the following coordinates: N 43 04.ABC W 078 03.DEF

A = the 3rd digit in the date of the Byron Fair Society
B = the 3rd digit in the date of the Byron Cheese Factory minus one
C = the sum of the 4th, 5th & 6th digits in the date of the Byron Telephone Co.
D = the 4th digit in the date of the Byron Cheese Factory
E = the 4th digit in the date of the Byron Fair Society
F = the 2nd digit in the date of the Byron Telephone Co.

Once you have arrived at the new coordinates you will need to determine the coordinates in the next step of this multi. These coordinates will lead you to the final here.
Final coordinates are: N 43 04.GHI W 078 03.JKL

G = the 2nd digit in the year the church was erected
H = the 2nd digit in the # on the front of the building
I = the 3rd digit in the year the church was erected
J = the 4th digit in the # on the front of the building minus one
K = subtract the 4th digit in the # on the front of the building from the 1st digit
L = the last digit in the year the building was donated to the town minus 2

I hope everyone attempting this cache will get some enjoyment out of it and feedback is always welcome here. Please do not (DO NOT!) do this cache at night. I don't want anyone getting into trouble with the local police department here and there is no need to upset the neighbors as well.

The final cache container here is a painted Folgers coffee can with a log book, pencil, some trade items, a white jeep travel bug to help you on your tour and also your sixth clue. Don't forget to write this down so the final in the series will become clear to you.
