Geocache Description:

This spot has been on my radar screen for a while. I thought I'd place a regular cache here before High Sierra Lakes got to this one with a micro .

This one is definately a High Sierra Lake. Elevation 8686.
Named for multiple reasons....

  • the average water temperature here is probably pretty close to 45 degrees (I did not test it out today)
  • depending on your approach, at some points it may feel like you are climbing at a 45 degree angle (but the designated path is much easier)
  • the average wind speeds the day I placed this one. Surely there were some higher speed gusts, esp on the west side of the ridge along the PCT. I could not stand up to take a picture of Upper Blue Lake, I had to sit down and hold the camera out from behind a large rock. On the way back walking into the wind, it was more strenuous than walking up one of those 45 degree slopes . I could also feel spray blowing off the lake from almost 300 yards away .
  • 45 degree - oops I forgot
I think you'll really enjoy the scenery around here, esp in the early summer months.
