Located in Lake Fenwick Park this would make a great CITO hike. (Bring a big bag!)
Cache: Pink Elephant is a cocktail cache! (NO LIQUOR INSIDE!) Plastic cocktail shaker filled with plastic cocktail critters, bottle openers, shot glasses and even a recipe or two! Take a critter to adorn your favorite beverage and leave a recipe behind! Pencils and a log book of course. It is hidden in the trunk of a tall wooden "elephant" with a big butt.
Location: Kent.
Length: Several miles of trails. Cache near parking lot.
Level of difficulty: Flat to moderately steep dirt/gravel/bark trails (muddy after rains), with wooden boardwalks and a long metal staircase.
Setting: This serene glen tucked among wooded ridges gives you the feeling of having stumbled upon a languid little Appalachian hollow. The 20-acre lake in the middle of the park is liberally dotted with yellow pond lilies and crossed by a boardwalk trail that leads to tiny Lake Island. The trail then curves around the lake and climbs a narrow ridge. On the far side of the ridge, a huge metal staircase descends through the forest canopy, and the trail leads north through a lush deciduous forest to the eastern trailhead.
Highlights: This is a favorite spot for fishing and bird-watching, and the silence of devotees lends the area a contemplative air.
