Cliffside, Texas is located five miles northwest of Amarillo in southern Potter County, in 1888 it became a station on the Fort Worth and Denver City Railway, but no community was developed there until 1905, this was when the first rural school was established. Mrs. Frances E. Boyles opened a post office in her husband's general store in 1908, and William H. Bush dedicated the town site on August 5, 1915. On April 4, 1954 Cliffside Baptist Church was chartered, and in addition to regular church services, it was also the site of all local town meetings and elections. Unfortunatly the Post Office and General Store have since disappeared, but the Church is still in existence and is fully operational, and what was once a dwindling population, in recent years has seen an increase thanks in part to Amarillo's growth to the northwest, and new developments in the Buffalo Ridge Area.
