Geocache Description:

Please practice CITO in this area. Located near the Confederate Cemetary in Quitman MS. light bushwackin may be required.

Near this site in July of 1862 a hospital was built by citizens of Galveston and Houston, Texas. They built it to insure that Texas Confederate soldiers and others from other states would receive medical care. Dr. Louis A. Bryan was the first doctor there and he bought wagon load of medicine from Mexico with him. A surgeon, Dr. Enos Thomas Bonney, helped Dr Bryan. Dr. Bonney was from nearby Enterprise. The hospital was called the "Texas Hospital because of the people who built it. Brigadier General Walter Q. Gresham and his troops Burned the hospital. In the 1930's a farmer was plowing this area to put in a crop and discovered the graveyard. It has since been restored and maintained by local groups. Please be respectful of the work that has been done here and practice CITO as you enter and leave. Enjoy the area. Watch for snakes in warmer months. This is an ammo can. Please hide it back as good or better than you found it.
