The cache is located off the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) in the vicinity of Upper Echo Lake at a elevation of about 7600 ft.
The cache is an ammo can hidden on Red Hill off the PCT. You can access the cache area by trail by using the old trail that goes over Red Hill. From Lower Echo Lake headed toward Desolation turn right off the PCT on the old trail at: N 38º50.738, W 120º04.143. From Desolation heading toward Lower Echo Lake turn left off PCT onto old trail at: N38º50.755, W 120º04.433. At the highest point on the old trail you will have to go a short distance off the trail to find the cache and to enjoy the fantastic view of Lower and Upper Echo Lakes. GPS reception should be excellent.
The cache also can be reached by bushwhacking up Red Hill from other points off the PCT.
The cache MAY be accessible in the winter since wind and exposure may minimize snow accumulation.
