Geocache Description:

There is parking available in the arena parking lot to the south of the cache. Very little bush pushing required.

This cache is placed in celebration of the annual Great White North Pumpkin Fair & Weigh-off. The festival is held on the first Saturday of October. In addition to the festival itself, there are many other great things to do in town on this day: car show, bake sale, threshing bee, seniors' garage sale, art show, farmer's market, etc. Check out the Smoky Lake website for more info: www.smokylake.com/pumpkin/events

We attended again this year (2009) and what a great day it was!! For any of you who haven't attended the festival yet, you really need to make the trip at least once! Our day was so full and so fun. The biggest pumpkin this year weighed in at 1,199 lbs! They also had something new this year - a pumpkin drop. They raised three pumpkins, all increasing in size to almost 1100 lbs, on a huge crane and then dropped them on targets. The first target was a pile of squash on the ground; the second target was an old junk car. They dropped the biggest pumpkin on the car and let me tell you, there wasn't much left of either the car or the pumpkin. GREAT FUN!

The cache is a black bucket filled with all things pumpkin (except the pumpkin itself). If possible, please keep to the theme - anything pumpkin related is great. There is a lovely walking path leading from the arena, where the festival is held, to very close to the cache. This path also circles over the old ferry and past the museum. There are public washrooms available across the road from the parking area to the south.

Be sure to visit Fun Adventure's 'Castle Cache' while in town. This is the best cache I've ever been to and well worth the visit.
