Geocache Description:

Hidden at summit of Mt Baldy @ 732 meters, Kaimai Ranges.

Mt Baldy is a relatively low, grassy, scrub covered peak which forms part of the Kaimai Ridgeline. It is situated just above the Department of Conservation Hut called Te Rereatukahia. This hut, Mt Baldy and the cache can be reached by various routes but the most common and accessable is the Hot Springs Road loop track which is a day tramp through the Kaimai bush starting and finishing at the end of Hot Springs Road.
This cache should not be attempted after periods of heavy rain as there are river crossings at the lower ends of the track and also the weather can be very extreme at the summit.
In good weather this tramp is ideal for fit active children as an introduction to a longish bush tramp but I would advise this only in late spring to early autumn unless very well prepared.
The track is usually wet and boggy near the summit so good boots are always a must.
The cache is a small white plastic container with a red top and Geocaching label containing, stash sheet, notebook, pencils and sharpener. It is hidden in a natural space under a solid object at the very highest spot. GPS coverage could not be any better since there is nothing to block the signals.
Take a camera, the views are spectacular (in good weather)
