Geocache Description:

Situated on a limestone pavement outcrop in a wooded terrain reached by short climbs and forest trails.

This cache is situated in a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) on National Trust land. Permission has been granted by the local warden on the understanding that the site will be treated with regard for its special status. The limestone pavement has taken hundreds of millions of years to get to this stage. Please tread carefully and search discriminately, leaving the site as you found it. The monument you will find here is a local landmark that should be easy to find, but it takes several visits to get it pinned down completely. It has become easier to find with new signposts. This is the high point of Castlebarrow where the tower has been in place since 1887. A companion, the 'Salt Cellar' has been mooted, at least a couple of times, but the set remains incomplete. Eaves Wood is a great place to explore ancient woodland on bare limestone, ruins, ant hills and the atmospheric clearing the 'Ring o' Beeches or 'The Fairy Ring'. Go in a group and hold court! Park at Eaves Wood car park (SD 472760)and spend some time wandering the 130 acres of National Trust land. Please replace the cache in the exact spot that it belongs. Try not to disturb the surrounding area and respect this beautiful and ancient site.
