Jupiter Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no response to my earlier post, I'm archiving this to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact me (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, I'll be happy to unarchive it.

Geocache Description:

The cache is located within the Shrewsbury Municipal Complex (Manson Park) in Shrewsbury, NJ. There is plenty of parking here, just make sure its not a reserved spot you are parking in.

Jupiter is the 6th planet of the solar system. It is the largest planet, and it is known for its large red spot. The spot is actually a gigantic hurricane-like storm raging across the planet. Less known is the fact that Jupiter has a set of rings. They are not visible through a regular telescope because they are so thin and sparse.

Jupiter was named after the chief Ancient Roman god, Jupiter, who was based upon the Ancient Greek god Zeus. Zeus, too, was the chief, the ruler from Mount Olympus. Despite his marriage to Hera, he had many affairs, and many children out of wed-lock. All 38 of the moons that orbit Jupiter are named for his lovers, conquests, and descendants. As Mel Brooks said, "It's good to be the King!"

Jupiter originally had 16 moons. They are Metis, Adastea, Amalthea, Thebe, Io, Europa, Ganymede, Callisto, Leda, Himalia, Lysithea, Elara, Ananke, Carme, Pasiphae, & Sinope.

In the last 6 years, 22 more have been discovered, named, and formally recognized by the International Astronomical Union. They are Callirrhoe, Themisto, Megaclite, Taygete, Chaldene, Harpalyke, Kalyke, Iocaste, Erinome, Isonoe, Praxidike, Autonoe, Thyone, Hermippe, Aitne, Eurydome, Euanthe, Euporie, Orthosie, Sponde, Kale, & Pasithee.

The cache you seek is a brown pvc container that screws open/shut at both ends. It contains a log sheet inside of a ziploc bag so that the log stays dry, even if the cache happens to leak. No room for a pen here, so bring your own! As always, please place the cache back as you found it so it stays hidden from prying eyes.

The cache is hidden near several playing fields, so at times you may have to wait for the muggles to clear out a little. There can be plenty of curious passers-by at certain hours, so for this one, Jupiter has decreed "STEALTH is MANDATORY!" He (the cache) is there to watch over the masses, so be kind and keep his cache safe!

Oh, and one last noteworthy bit of information. The symbol taped to the inside of the lid may come into play to help you find "Eris", the last (12th of 12) of the planet caches. Since many have not fared well, I have included a photo of all the symbols on the page for "Eris". Please reference it if the symbol has become damaged/missing in a few of the planets.

Enjoy!
