Mississauga's of Scugog Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

JUNGLE J: since there is a resergence of "Private" signs in the area, I have decided to archive this one at least until I can once again speak with the Band Chief. They had previously agreed to the cache, but I am guessing that in the 2 years it has been operational, they have forgotten, and I wish no embarrassment for any cachers. Consider this one gone, unless I restart it or another close by. I removed the cache this morning.

Geocache Description:

This cache is the first, with permission, on First Nation land on Scugog Island. A short walk down a narrow road, then a detour off into a wooded area will get you there.

The Mississauga's of Scugog Island First Nation have lived on Scugog Island since the 1840s. Many of the natives live in this area and work here too, especially since they, with the cooperation of the Government of Ontario, built the Great Blue Heron Casino on their land. They have their own government, a chief and councillors who live nearby, and manage the business of the Mississaugas out of the office building on the Island Road just past the casino and a few kilometers from this cache. The Mississauga's Cache has copies of an information sheet in it, as well as Mississauga's pens, and each cacher is welcome to take a copy and learn more about these neighbours of ours.

Do not drive beyond the given parking coordinate please. The road is narrow and marshy on one side, and any traffic coming along the road would be stopped by your vehicle. Park on the road allowance at the given coordinate and walk through the "Stone Guardians" and along the roadway. It is not far.

Proceed North up the Island Road from Highway 7A, about 8km, then west on the road beside the Scugog Island Store. It is named the Seven Mile Island Road. Park at the end of the road at N44 10.062, W 78 54.331. Please, by the Native Band's request, do not drive up the road through the stone "men".

The cache is an ammo box and contains regular cache trading items as well as information about the folks who own the land around here.

There is probably a real mosquito problem during the biting season. Be warned! Glad the cache was set up in October!
