Geocache Description:

This mini-multi-cache will take you on a journey that may introduce you to a new way to renew, reflect, and relax, regardless of what faith (if any) you practice.

**Stages are not under bricks so please respect the area. Also, stages are not under wooden covers of brick benches. Please do not move them.**

This is a three-step multi cache that can all be done in the same location. Although it is a multi, it should be a great one-stop adventure. The first cache will provide the coordinates for the next, which will provide the coordinates to the final.

Holy Cross requests that you only search during daylight hours, and stay in the area of the labyrinth/garden as a daycare operates nearby. We also ask that you treat the area with care. Finding the caches should not require any actions that would disrupt the natural surroundings.

We encourage you to use this cache as an opportunity to slow down, observe, and take a rest, not just obtain a “found it.”

When the cache was first placed, a hummingbird flew quite close to our child’s head! What did you experience or discover? We ask that when you log your find here on the computer, you also add one comment (or more) about something you read, learned, observed, or did while visiting this labyrinth and the garden around it.

Rediscovering the Labyrinth

In the great cathedrals of France, astonishing labyrinths are embedded in the floors of the nave. Unlike mazes, these labyrinths have a single path in and out. There are no false entrances or dead ends in a labyrinth. For centuries, these labyrinths have been ignored, obscured, removed, and suppressed. Slowly, Christians are rediscovering the significance of this important spiritual tool, which holds such power for prayer and reflection.

The Labyrinth at Holy Cross

Long ago, Christians were expected to travel to the holy land at least once during their lives. But as travel was often both difficult and dangerous, labyrinths were designed and sanctioned as alternative pilgrimages. If travel was out of the question, spiritual merit could be gained by walking the labyrinth. The labyrinth has always been associated with unity with God and conversation with the divine, with spirituality, worship, and the sacred mystery. After many, many months of planning and hard work, the family at Holy Cross dedicated the Memorial Garden, which includes a brick labyrinth patterned after the one set in the stone floor of the Chartres Cathedral in France in 1220. It is a classical, eleven-circuit labyrinth that was built entirely by the loving hands of the members of Holy Cross. The stained glass pavers that encircle our labyrinth were made by the men, women, and children at Holy Cross. To all who come here, we welcome you to our sacred space and hope your soul is awakened.

**PLEASE REPLACE ALL STAGES EXACTLY AS FOUND. Stages are not under bricks so please respect the area. Also, stages are not under wooden covers of brick benches. Please do not move them.**
