Reviewer of the Cache: [red]ARCHIVING CACHE[/red]

Greetings,

As there's been no cache to find for awhile, I'm archiving it to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements. If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future, just contact us (by email), and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

If you wish to repair/replace the cache sometime in the future just contact us by email at glenn.geocachingadmin@gmail.com and/or RotC@geocachingadmin.com and assuming it meets the guidelines, we'll be happy to unarchive it.

If you're reading this as an email don't reply to the sending address as it will not reach me. [red]Follow the contact instructions above.[/red]

How Geocaching Works

Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions in our disclaimer.

Geocache Description:

Quick grab off of Hwy 71. Shouldn't take you more than 5-10 minutes from 71 hwy to locate and you can park within 100 feet of it. Solve the code to find the cache. Coordinates listed are within 1 Mi. of cache. Lots of room to trade.

The Archie, Adrian area is sadly lacking in caches. This is my first attempt to fix that.

You are looking for a container large enough to hold lots of goodies for trade. Travel bugs and geocoins can be found here as well. There may even be a special prize for the first to find.

This cache may appear to be on private property but it is not. It lies on the highway easement. The homeowner directly to the north is aware of the cache and will not bother you, except to maybe say hi, as he is a fellow geocacher. Please do not go north of the fence row during your search as that IS on his private property.

You’ll need to decode the message at the end of this description in order to obtain the exact coordinates to the cache. The coordinates listed at the top of this page will only get you to the general area, which is within 1 mile of the cache.

To decode the message, you’ll have to know your civil war history. More specifically, you’ll need to research the life of Albert J. Myer, the father of the U.S. Weather Bureau, and the U.S. Army Signal Corps.

Myer lived from Sept 20,1828 to Aug 24, 1880, obtaining the rank of Brigadier General just before his death. During the earlier part of his life, he developed a system of sign language for deaf and mute people as well as many other forms of communication, of which some were used by both sides in the civil war. Google his name to learn all about him and to also discover the secret to decode the message. Be advised that you may find the correct method to solve only to have the wrong key. I've used a key that is published on the web. See the hint for a clue.

Good luck!!

Note: even though you need to reference civil war history to find this cache, the location the cache resides in has no civil war signifigance. Just a spot I found to hide it in.
