FTF004:EIOLT Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Edisto Patto: Visited the cache site today and removed the cache. Did not see the sign but some folks around here have a tendency to remove signs they don't like or agree with!!! Although the EIOLT said they really have no objections to the cache being on the property, there have been some reports of illegal activities going on there and that's what the sign was intended for. Rather then take the chance of any cachers being hassled by the local LEO's I am going to archive the cache. Thanks to all who visited.

Geocache Description:

Dedicated to the Edisto Island Open Land Trust

Fourth cache in clemsonbeav's FTF series
This is a remake of my Holiday Stash Cache--no change in co-ordinates.
This is an easily accessible cache along the high edge of the marsh. On level solid ground. Very little brush in the immediate cache area so no bushwhacking needed. Although I have not seen any, as always though, keep an eye out for our slithery friends. Mosquitoes are another story so have the repellent handy especially in warm weather. There is a place to pull into the property off of the highway. Frequently, there are herons, egrets and other wading birds that you can observe fairly close up either in the marsh or roosting in the trees.

The cache container is a medium sized plastic lock-n-lock container with room for small travel bugs and other trade items.

The area nearby is managed by the Edisto Island Open land trust. I checked with them and the public is welcome to explore and enjoy this parcel of land and several others that are marked along Highway 174 as “Protected by the Edisto Island Open Land Trust”. At this location you can read the names of those who have been remembered by having young live oaks planted in their names along Highway 174. The EIOLT is also working to obtain designation of Highway 174 as a national scenic highway to help further protect the beauty of Edisto for the next generations.

The First To Find project is a unique project designed to reward those cachers who are quick enough to snag the FTF. It started with clemsonbeav's FTF001: Welcome to Honea Path! on 31 Jul 06. Whoever is the FTF at a FTF cache then has a responsibility. That cacher then must go and hide a cache to be the next cache in the FTF project, numbering the cache accordingly. Additional instructions to the FTF cacher may be provided. Hopefully, this project will quickly spread across the state, then the nation, then the world! If you are FTF, please do your part to expedite this project's spreading! If, however, you are FTF and are unable or unwilling to continue this project, please make it clear that you are deferring until the next finder. There is no obligation to participate
