Geocache Description:

You are seeking a plastic jar painted black

While out caching I found this park and thought it needed a cache placed here. This is my first hide so I hope you enjoy. Park hours are 5:00 am -10:00 pm. FEC Park resides in the San Marco area. Originally part of a plantation established around 1800 by South Jacksonville pioneer William Craig, the land was purchased in 1929 by the City of South Jacksonville, which was a separate municipality from 1907 to 1932. Accorded the privilege of naming the new park, the South Jacksonville Woman’s Club chose Southside Athletic Field, which, as today, was a 15-acre field with no other amenities. Eventually the name was changed to FEC Park, in honor of the Florida East Coast Railroad that maintained a large terminal yard in South Jacksonville for many years. Henry M. Flagler established the FEC Railroad and extended the railroad from Jacksonville to Key West, with the line passing adjacent to the park grounds. The neighborhood children have utilized the large, open tract as a play site, and golfers often use the long expanse of lawn to practice their games.
