The Vemork industrial site near
Rjukan has been the scene of incredible action and human drama,
most famously the numerous attempts by saboteurs to blow it up
during World War 2. The facility produced heavy water, from which
the nazis were hoping to develop an atomic bomb. The allied efforts
are depicted in the movie “Heroes of Telemark”, starring Kirk
Douglas, and a number of less glamorous documentaries.
Also, Rjukan is historically a hotbed of class struggle, union
activism and various socialist movements. More often than not, work
was dangerous and filthy, and being a worker here carried four
times more risk of injury than being a manager, while pay was much
poorer.
Today, the vast Vemork plant hosts the Norsk
Industriarbeidermuseum (industry workers museum). During opening
hours, visitors may also see videos about wartime events.
To log the cache, you need to visit one location near the parking
area and another location on the way up to the museum.
The given coordinates point to location 1. The area is dominated
by a large piece of industrial machinery, which is also a signpost.
Along the diameter of the object, several numbers can be seen. Look
for the "Best nr" to identify clues ABC.
If the number is 30569, ABC=281.
If the number is 30579, ABC=301.
If the number is 30589, ABC=321.
Now cross the bridge and visit a memorial plaque at N 59° 52.318
E 008° 29.647. Read the plaque to identify clues DEF. If the plaque
is a memorial to
a worker's uprising, DEF=407
the founding of the factory, DEF=457
the victims of a bomb attack, DEF=507
The cache is located at
N 59° 52.ABC
E 008° 29.DEF
The cache is a Mostly Moose egg, containing a
logbook, pencil, some pins and clips, coins and a moose dropping.
It is also the release point of
TB Hero of Telemark.
Warning: This is a steep area. Do not attempt any risky
maneuvres during your hunt. The waypoints and the cache itself are
located within safe areas, near a path. |
