Geocache Description:

The given coordinates place you approximately in the middle of Richmond Green. The cache is a quiet visit to an historical backwater finally taking you to an Art Deco masterpiece.

Your first location is a row of houses built for the maids of honour of Caroline of Anspach, the wife of George II (1727-1760) and one of this row features in Great Expectations. The whole row is Grade 1 listed - a design classic. Inside the houses are equally remarkable. In one the Italian painter Antonio Joli painted 11 wall panels with views of the Rhine, Basle Cathedral, Vesuvius, a Mediterranean port and three oriental scenes. Around these pictures are trompe l'oeil frames and it is thought that Thomas Gainsborough, who was a pupil of Joli, may have helped painted them. The houses cannot be altered and retain almost all of their original features including the kitchens. What date on the plaque denotes when the buildings were finished? THIS IS [ABCD]

Your second location is the gatehouse to
Richmond Palace and a small blue plaque high up in the wall. The miserly Henry VII built the palace and it was named Richmond Palace after his having acquired the Earldom of Richmond at Bosworth Field. The palace was enormous but sadly was knocked down on the orders of Parliament after the execution of Charles I. How many monarchs are listed as having lived in the palace? THIS IS [G]

Go through the gateway into the courtyard (there is a public footpath right of way). The next location takes you to another plaque celebrating a more recent occupant of the wardrobe of Henry VIII. This chancellor lived here for how many years? THIS IS [
EF]

Continue through the courtyards (there is a public footpath right of way), out past the White Swan and down to the river. As you emerge onto the towpath you will notice four crossings of the River Thames. Two are road bridges, one is a lock and pedestrian bridge, and the final one is a railway bridge. All these structures are beautiful in their own way. My personal favourite is
Twickenham Bridge which is an Art Deco masterpiece: look at the hinges, the railings, the lighting and marvel at its clean decorative simplicity.

The final location is under one of the bridges, which gives you far too much information- so to make you work for your final location, all I will give you is the ten digits after the N51 and W000, in no particular order.
