Interloper: Have heard the cement works is going to relocate the cycle way so wanted to retrieve the box before the vegetation is too dense.

Geocache Description:

A nice easy cache which can be reached by bicycle (keeping in the spirit of its location)or on foot.

On Your Bike

A cycle path, running alongside the East Coast railway, was established by Lafarge Cement in 2004. The path was intended to be part of the cycle way from Dunbar to Skateraw, running from the Dunbar Cement Works to join the road to Barns Ness near Skateraw.

However, for whatever reason, there are no signs to indicate the existence of the path, neither at the Cement works nor at the other end where the path exits onto the road! The first time I went looking for this path it took me several attempts to find it. Part of the challenge of this cache is to find the start and finish of the cycle way!

29 July 2007. As noted in recent logs, there is now a sign at the eastern end of the bike route and the track seems to have received some recent upgrading. However the challenge still remains for cachers wishing to find the start of the cycle way at the Cement Factory end.

From the Cement Works the cycle way goes through what can only be described as an industrial wasteland but this is soon left behind and the path gives a pleasant run between fields and the railway. There are signs of use but I have never seen anyone else on it.

Cyclists might enjoy linking this cache with Lime Trail and Lime and Uranium (Firth of Forth and Jack Aubrey).
