!!!!OPGELET: GEWIJZIGDE OPDRACHT 20/11/2007!!!!
De tocht is ongeveer 4 km lang en niet uitermate geschikt voor de wandelwagen. Honden zijn toegelaten. Om deze cache tot een goed einde te brengen, kan je best een spiegeltje, pen en papier meenemen. Voor een deel van de tocht gelden beperkte openingsuren: van 1 april tot 30 september: 7.00-20.00; van 1 oktober tot 31 maart: 7.00-18.00.
Iedereen kent wel de dag die de geschiedenis is ingegaan als D-day: de invasie waarbij tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog de bevrijding van Europa startte op het strand van Normandië. Minstens even belangrijk - zoniet belangrijker - is echter P-Day, in de annalen terug te vinden als de dag waarop de bevrijding van Pasbrug begon. Op P-Day, in de nacht van 24 op 25 april 1944, werden 3 paracommando’s gedropt boven Pasbrug.
Tijdens deze cache herbeleef je de tocht van deze dapperen en treed je in hun voetsporen. Maak je klaar om het avontuur te beginnen.
Onder hevig mortiervuur werden de drie gedropt boven Pasbrug. Vier anderen dienden nog gedropt te worden doch het vliegtuig werd neergeschoten. Tot overmaat van ramp verloren de 3 gedropte paracommando’s hun wapens en munitie. Ze moesten het verder zien te redden met een plattegrond van de streek die ze uit het hoofd hadden moeten leren en een adres waar de leider van de plaatselijke verzetsbeweging ondergedoken was.
Om de dropzone te vinden (WP1) zoek je op de parking naar de openingsuren van het gemeentelijk documentatiecentrum. Noem deze aaaa – bbbb en cccc – dddd.
WP1: N 51° 02.(aaaa-785) E 004° 30.(dddd + bbbb – cccc – 1619)
Gelukkig herinnerden ze zich het bestaan van een bunker in de nabijheid van de dropzone. Niettegenstaande deze bemand was geweest door vijandelijke troepen, koesterden onze 3 vrienden de hoop dat zij hier wapens en munitie zouden vinden. Uit de laatste informatie die ze ontvangen hadden, konden zij immers afleiden dat het schuiloord verlaten was. De coördinaten van de bunker vormen WP2. Om deze te vinden, dien je op zoek te gaan naar een micro.
Helaas bleek dat de bunker niet alleen verlaten, doch ook volledig ontruimd was. Toen de 3 para’s in de verte het brandend wrak van hun vliegtuig zagen, zonk de moed hen bijna in de schoenen. Ze besloten echter hun gevallen kameraden waardig te begraven en begaven zich op weg naar WP3. Om de coördinaten van dit WP te vinden, zoek je een GC-tag.
De paracommando’s sleepten de lichamen uit het wrak en trokken naar de plek waar ze hen een waardig afscheid konden geven. Hun graf is te vinden op WP 4. Omdat de vijand nog steeds op de loer lag, was het voor hen niet mogelijk de omgeving proper te maken. Het is dus best mogelijk dat je hier nog legerattributen tegenkomt.
Luttele seconden nadat ze hun dode kameraden ten grave hadden gedragen werden de 3 strijdmakkers zwaar onder vuur genomen door de vijand. Doordat ze na de ongelukkige parachutesprong geen wapens meer in hun bezit hadden, restte hen niets anders dan op de vlucht te slaan. Wie wil weten waarheen de vlucht leidde, moet enkel de juiste informatie van het graf aflezen:
• A = getal dat het vaakst voorkomt
• B = getal dat het tweede vaakst voorkomt
• C = getal dat het derde vaakst voorkomt
• D = getal dat het vierde vaakst voorkomt
• E = hoogste getal dat het vijfde vaakst voorkomt
• F = tweede getal dat het vijfde vaakst voorkomt
• G = …
WP5: N DA° FB.CED E FFC° EF. (BxE-F)CG
Bliksemsnel renden ze langs de poort heen het park in naar WP6. Om dit WP te vinden moet je op de alom gekende wijze letters in getallen omzetten (A=1; B=2; … Y=25; Z=26). Getallen met 2 cijfers moeten worden opgeteld tot 1 getal (26=2+6=8). De cijfers die worden aangegeven in de coördinaat geven de xde LETTER aan op de plaat (vb. N 1-1° 1-1.1-1-1 zou betekenen N PP° PP.PPP, wat dan weer wordt gecorrigeerd naar N 77° 77.777). Een ‘0’ in het WP staat gewoon voor het getal nul (0).
WP6: N 7-5° ‘0’-6.36-6-51 E ‘0’-‘0’-4° 36-‘0’.1-‘0’-2
Terwijl onze 3 vrienden zich daar verscholen voor het spervuur, beloofden ze elkaar plechtig dat zij – indien ze dit hachelijke avontuur zouden overleven – nadien precies op deze plek een kapelletje zouden bouwen. Z maanden na de dropping kwamen ze hun belofte na (Z = het aantal volledige maanden na de dropping, er van uitgaand dat de kapel aan het begin van de aangegeven maand geplaatst is). Toen het gevaar geweken was, vervolgden ze met stevige tred hun zoektocht naar wapens en munitie. Hiertoe dienden ze de veiligheid die het park hen bood voorgoed achter zich te laten en zochten ze via een kleine omweg hun onderduikadres op. Ze volgden hiervoor een route langs WP7.
WP7: N 51° 02.(Z+288) E 004° 30.(Z+723)
Op dit punt dienden ze zich opnieuw te oriënteren. Via één van de lokale verzetsleden waren de para’s te weten gekomen dat de veiligste route hen langs een plaatselijk monument zou voeren. Om dit monument te aanschouwen, moesten ze de code kraken die in de busdiensten verscholen zat. De diensten zijn volgens volgend schema te lezen: I J K

Desalniettemin hadden ze na het kraken van deze code het monument nog steeds niet bereikt. De exacte locatie van dit monument is terug te vinden op een tag, die je WP9 geeft.
Veel tijd om te rusten was er helaas niet. Via een kleine omweg zetten ze hun tocht naar het onderduikadres verder. De paracommando’s beschikten over de geheime informatie dat er ergens op deze route wapens verborgen waren. Op WP10 konden ze de exacte locatie van de wapens vinden. Om WP10 te bereiken, dien je eerst op zoek te gaan naar een tag.
Ook hier zoek je dus een tag, om WP11, de locatie van de wapens te vinden.
Eindelijk - na al deze omzwervingen - bereikten ze de opslagplaats en konden de 3 kameraden voor het eerst sedert de dropping opnieuw wapens ter hand nemen. Na een grondige inspectie van de wapens bleek echter dat de munitie ontbrak. Deze was immers elders begraven om te vermijden dat de vijand deze bij toeval zou ontdekken. Enigszins ontmoedigd begaven de moegestreden paracommando’s zich op weg naar het schuiladres (WP12).
Daar aangekomen bracht een plaatselijk verzetslid hen uiteindelijk op de hoogte van de route die ze dienden te volgen om de munitie te vinden. Allereerst dienden ze het huisnummer van het schuiladres te noteren om hen op het juiste spoor te zetten. Noem dit huisnummer MN.
WP13: N 51° 02.(M-1)(N-1)(M-1) E 004° 30.(M-2)(N-5)(M-2)
Op deze locatie troffen ze tenslotte tot ieders vreugde de definitieve vindplaats van de munitie aan. Om deze te lokaliseren, zoek je naar een micro met de coördinaten van de cache. Opgelet: onze 3 vrienden hielden wel degelijk rekening met het feit dat voedsel schaars was in deze oorlogsjaren. De gewassen van de plaatselijke boeren werden dan ook met het nodige respect behandeld!!!

Everybody knows D-day: the start of the invasion at the beaches of Normandy that ended with the liberation of Europe in World War II. At least equally important –if not more- however is P-Day, known as the day the liberation of Pasbrug started. At P-Day, in the night of 24 to 25th of April 1944, 3 paratroopers were dropped over Pasbrug.
During this cache, you will relive the journey of those brave ones and follow their footsteps. The journey is approximately 4 kilometres and not really suited for the buggy. Dogs are allowed. In order to finish this cache, you will need a mirror, pen and paper. For one part of the journey, the opening hours are limited: from April 1st till September 30th: 7.00-20.00; from October 1st till March 31st: 7.00-18.00.
Now get ready to start the adventure!
Under heavy fire, the three were dropped over Pasbrug. Four others needed to be dropped, but the plane caught fire. In top of that, the 3 dropped paratroopers lost there weapons and ammunition. They had to survive with only a blueprint of the surroundings, that they had memorised and the address where the leader of the local resistance movement could be found.
In order to find the drop zone (WP1) you will seek at the parking area for the opening hours of the local government documentation centre. Call these aaaa – bbbb en cccc – dddd.
WP1: N 51° 02.(aaaa-785) E 004° 30.(dddd + bbbb – cccc – 1619)
Luckily they remembered the existence of a bunker nearby the drop zone. Even though the bunker had been manned by enemy troops, the three friends put their hopes on finding weapons and ammo there. After all the last information they had received showed the bunker was abandoned. The coordinates of the bunker make out WP2. In order to find these, look for a micro.
Unfortunately, the bunker was not only abandoned, but also cleaned out thoroughly. When the 3 paratroopers saw the burning wreckage of their plane in the distance, they lost courage. They decided to give their comrades a suiting farewell and got on their way to WP3. To find the coordinates of this waypoint, look for a GC-tag.
The paratroopers dragged the bodies from the wreckage and went on to the place where they could peacefully say goodbye to their friends. You can find their grave at WP4. Since the enemy was still haunting them, it was not possible to clean the environment. It is thus very well possible you will still find army attributes at this location.
Only a few seconds after they had carried their comrades to their graves, the 3 paratroopers found themselves under heavy fire by the enemy. Because of the lack of weapons, they had no choice but to seek refuge in flight. If you want to know where their flight went, you will have to read the correct information from the grave:
• A = the number you will find the most
• B = the number you will find the second most
• C = the number you will find the third most
• D = the number you will find the fourth most
• E = the highest number you will find the fifth most
• F = the second highest number you will find the fifth most

Quick as lightning they ran past the gate into the park towards WP6. To find this waypoint, transfer letters into figures in the well-known way (A=1; B=2; … Y=25; Z=26). Numbers with 2 figures must be summed up to one figure (26=2+6=8). The numbers given in the coordinate give the xth LETTER on the plate (fe. N 1-1° 1-1.1-1-1 would mean N PP° PP.PPP, which is corrected to N 77° 77.777). A ‘0’ in the WP just means the number zero (0).
WP6: N 7-5° ‘0’-6.36-6-51 E ‘0’-‘0’-4° 36-‘0’.1-‘0’-2
While our 3 friends were hiding for the curtain fire, they promised to each other that –if they were to survive this precarious adventure- they would come back and build a chapel at this specific place. Z months after the dropping, they lived up to their promise (Z = the number of entire months after the dropping, assuming the chapel was build at the start of the given month). When danger had fled, they followed their search for weapons and ammunition. Therefore, they had to abandon the safety of the park forever and look for their shelter through a small detour. Therefore, they followed the road past WP7.
WP7: N 51° 02.(Z+288) E 004° 30.(Z+723)
At this point, they had to reorient themselves. Through one of the local resistance members they found out that the safest road would lead them past a local monument. In order to find this monument, they had to break the code hidden in the bus services. The services are to be read according to the following schedule: I J K

Nevertheless after breaking the code, they still did not reach the monument. The exact location of this monument can be found on a tag that gives you WP9.
Unfortunately there was not much time for rest. Through a little detour, they continued their journey for the shelter. The paratroopers were given secret information that somewhere around this route, weapons were hidden. At WP10 they could find the exact location of the weapons. In order to find WP10, first you have to find a tag.
At this location, you will also look for a tag, to find WP11, the location of the weapons.
Finally –after all this wandering- they reached the storage and the 3 comrades could, for the first time since the dropping, feel weapons in their hands again. After a thorough inspection of the weapons, it seemed however that the ammo was missing. This was buried elsewhere to avoid the enemy would find it by coincidence. Somewhat discouraged, the battle-weary paratroopers went on their way to the shelter (WP12).
Upon arrival, a local member of the resistance finally gave them the route to follow in order to find the ammo. First they had to note the house number of the shelter to put them on the right track. Call this house number MN.
WP13: N 51° 02.(M-1)(N-1)(M-1) E 004° 30.(M-2)(N-5)(M-2)
To everybody’s joy, at this location, they found the definite finding place of the ammo. In order to find this, look for a micro with the coordinates of the cache. Watch out: our 3 friends took into account the fact that food was scares in these years of war. The crops of the local farmers were treated with the proper respect!!!
