Where you cross the Platte is where the Mormon Ferry was located. There were three Mormon Ferry locations, this one being of the 1849-51 circa. The "Poison Spider Route" of the Oregon Trail crossed the Platte at this location, and converged with the Council Bluffs Road. They then continued west for 1/2 mile, then turned southwest and passed north of the Platte Bridge Station, then turned west and continued on down the Poison Spider Route via Emigrant Gap. Ruts (or swales) can still be seen from the Council Bluffs Road, but only in very few locations. This just happens to be one of the few areas still preserved.
Please re-hide the cache as or better than you found it so muggles won't disturb it.
