The village of Stoneyford is situated between Glenavy and Milltown, approximately 8km north of Lisburn and directly north of Stoneyford Reservoir.
The construction of the Stoneyford Reservoir greatly changed the character of lands to the south of the settlement, and the reservoir is now an important feature of the village. The reservoir is a popular fishing area, and is stocked at various times throughout the angling season. Fish caught are both Rainbow and Brown trout.
The reservoir is signposted from the village, and you can park at a grassy lay-by at N 54 33.860 W 006 06.872. This area can be boggy, so take care when parking. The entrance to the reservoir is just across the road. Once through this entrance take the path to the right around the reservoir.
There are paths all the way to the cache, though they can get a bit muddy after heavy rain. It is a round trip of almost 2km. The cache is a micro containing just a log, so PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN WRITING IMPLEMENT.
