Geocache Description:

This is one in a series of caches dedicated to some of the facts and history of chewing gum.

Chewing gum is a type of confectionery which is designed to be chewed instead of swallowed. Traditionally, it was made of chicle, a natural latex product, although for reasons of economy and quality many modern chewing gums use petroleum-based polymers instead of chicle. Chicle is nonetheless still the base of choice for some regional markets, such as in Japan. Glee Gum is the last United States gum manufacturer to still use chicle.

Juicy Fruit is a flavor of chewing gum made by Wrigley's. Introduced in the United States in 1893, Juicy Fruit almost immediately became one of the best-selling brands in the country, and remains so today. It has had seven different packaging designs as of 2004; many older packages are considered collectors items in a niche market.

Juicy Fruit was taken off the civilian marked temporarily during World War II because of shortages in the necessary ingredients to make it; additionally, demand for gum to be included in C-rations made sufficient production impossible. The gum was re-introduced to the general public in 1946.
