Geocache Description:

Spinning a Yarn - Telling a story. My Scouts like to sit around a campfire and make up a story one word at a time. The stories tend to ramble on and on and make no sense whatsoever, but it sure is fun.

Here's today's story:

Back in 1823, there was a Dynamite Manufactorer by the name of Orville Tinker who built a factory at the site of this cache. Orville made many bad decisions in his life. His last decision cost him his life. Orville shipped his dynamite via ox cart into town, then shipped it to Chicago via the Chicago Railline. That was a good decision.

One day, Orville was visited by a salesman by the name of Fredrick Svenenson. Sveneson was a drinking straw salesman. The drinking straw business was really bad back in 1825, and so Fredrick devised a plan to boost sales.

Svenenson convinced Tinker to purchase a gross of drinking straws to ship his dynamite in. He'd have to fill each straw and pack them tightly together for shipment. Little did Tinker know that dynamite and the plastic from the drinking straws created a chemical reaction resulting in an explosion. BAD DECISION!

The explosion was felt as far away as Cleveland. The center of the field in which you will be entering is a giant sinkhole. It grows larger each year and sinks lower.

Your decision will be obvious. Once you get to the edge, YOU WILL HAVE TO MAKE A DECISION - will you seek the cache or turn away? You decide. There is a bonus cache which is a pill bottle in the very lowest point, The regular cache is much larger.

Friendly Advice:
If you park in the parking lot by the school south of this cache and hike in along the stone path, you'll come to a point about 500 feet due east of the cache. Take the beaten path in through the woods. This will take you around the majority of the sinkhole. The grass was so high when I placed the cache that I couldn't even see the hole until I was right on top of it.
