Geocache Description:

A little multi-cache that educates as well as entertains.

Danville is not only home to the GeoMoosers, it was also the home of America's only Nobel Prize wining playwright, Eugene O'Neill, who chose to live in Danville at the climax of his writing career.

Isolated from the world and within the walls of his home, O'Neill wrote his final and most memorable plays while living in Danville: The Iceman Cometh, Long Day's Journey Into Night, and A Moon for the Misbegotten.

This Multi starts out right near the Eugene O'Neill Commemorative Sculpture. It is an 8-ft bronze sculpture of Eugene O'Neill's words from his most memorable play Long Day's Journey Into Night. (The name of this cache comes from that sculpture, which we thought was pretty appropriate.)

The commemorative, which was unveiled by the The Eugene O’Neill Foundation during the Sixth Annual Eugene O’Neill Festival in September 2005, is located in a park across from the Danville Library and Community Center. Surrounding the sculpture is a series of eight pedestals, each of which is topped with the open pages of a playbill. They contain photos and information about O’Neill and his plays.

The park is a great place to sit, relax, read a book and enjoy a sip of water (there's a water fountain there too.)

The first stage of this multi is a very flat micro which contains nothing but the coordinates to the second stage.

The second stage in walking distance away and is a small, square tupperware-like container with a log book, pencil and room for some small trade items. We started it off with a blue hot wheels VW bug.
