Geocache Description:

We have finally placed our first cache, on a section of the Teesdale Way between the villages of Stapleton and Croft on Tees in view of the River Tees itself.

The way to a man’s heart was so called because it is en route to our favourite eatery, (The Bridge Inn) if you have the chance to go then please do!

The Teesdale Way explores the course of the River Tees for exactly 100 miles from its source in the Cumbrian North Pennines to its outlet at Middlesbrough on the north-east coast. This is a delightful walk through unmatched river scenery.

Stapleton is a village in Richmondshire close to the River Tees, this is where you will find The Bridge Inn which serves a fantastic array of meals including Ostrich, Buffalo, Kangaroo and Crocodile. Booking is essential and you will not be disappointed.

Croft on Tees stands on the opposite side of the River Tees to Hurworth on Tees, the bridge over the Tees between the two marks the boundary between North Yorkshire and County Durham. The exact point being the fourth of the seven arches. Whilst researching this information we discovered that Lewis Carroll’s father was Rector of Croft church and historians believe that the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland was inspired by a carving found in Croft church.

The cache can be approached from either village, the bridleway can be muddy following rain.

This is a large cache in the form of an Ammo Box with plenty of room for swaps.
