all Paul Simon Fans, this series is for
you!!
This is the 3nd in this
series. Caches in this series will be titled by Paul Simon
songs. In some cases, it may be helpful to know the song, or
at least listen to it again if it’s been a while.
You can find it without knowing the song, or ever having
even heard of Paul Simon. For those of you who do know the songs,
this series should be a lot of fun. This song may be too obscure
for some fans (it’s definitely not my favorite!)
El Condor Pasa was originally lyric-less as a closing song
for a Peruvian musical of the same name. Translated into English,
it means “The Condor passes”. In Peru, apparently a condor
represents freedom. I’ve included the lyrics for the entire song,
because it represents a connection between nature and freedom.

The location of this cache is
part of the flood plains for Lake Alatoona, and belong to the US
Army Corps of Engineers. It will never be developed. There aren’t
too many places in metro Atlanta that we can say that about. In
Paul Simon’s words, I’d rather be a forest than a street
This land is reserved for hunting during season, but the cache is
only about 10 – 15 feet from parking*. You will not be
risking being skewered by an arrow as you find this cache. Hunting
hours are restricted, but be mindful, cautious, and be respectful.
This is a straight-forward cache...nothing tricky.
*Note: This cache was lost, then replaced on May 26, 2008. When we
replaced it, there was some work being done in the parking area and
you could not park 15 feet from the cache. No matter though, you
just have to go around the silt fence.
Also, the caches that are located behind Durham Middle and Frey
Elementary are on this same land but nearly a mile a way. They can
be reached by trail from here. Kummorah, Sweet Surrender, and
Looking for Space are somewhat on the way to Durham-Frey. The Tiger
Stripes night cache is also on this same land.
