The cache is hidden within the Sycamore Avenue Recreation Complex in Tinton Falls, NJ. There is abundant parking available, so please don't park on the side streets or in the lot of the neighboring school. Proceed to field #6.
DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS CACHE FROM THE SIDE OF THE NJ PARKWAY!
Saturn is the 7th planet in the solar system, and #8 of 12 in my solar system series (which includes the sun/sol). It is the second largest planet, most notable for its spectacular set of rings.
Saturn was the major Ancient Roman deity of agriculture, as well as father of the more famous second generation of Ancient Roman deities which include Jupiter and Ceres. Saturn was based upon the Ancient Greek deity Cronus, god of agriculture and harvests. Cronus was the leader and the youngest of the first generation of Titans (giants), who were fathered by Uranus. Cronus eventually seized power by using his sickle to castrate and depose Uranus. His rule was short lived, however. Cronus' son, Zeus, overthrew him along with the rest of the titans. After seizing leadership of Olympus, Zeus banished the titans to Tartarus (the Underworld), with the exception of Cronus, who escaped and fled. Apparently, history DOES repeat itself.
The planet Saturn originally had 18 moons, all named after various titans who served with Cronus, as well as their descendants. They are Pan, Atlas, Prometheus, Pandora, Epimetheus, Janus, Mimas, Enceladus, Tethys, Telesto, Calypso, Dione, Helene, Rhea, Titan, Hyperion, Iapetus, and Phoebe.
Recently, the IAU has determined 12 other orbiting objects to be moons. They are all named after Gallic, Norse, or Inuit giants. They are Ymir (Norse), Paaliaq (Inuit), Tarvos (Gallic), Ijiraq (Inuit), Suttungr (Norse), Kiviuq (Norse), Mundilfari (Norse), Albiorix (Gallic), Skathi (Norse Giantess!!), Erriapo (Gallic), Siarnaq (Inuit), and Thrymr (Norse).
Saturn/Cronus was a Titan. The cache is hidden in the clutches of what could be considered one of the "Titans" of the landscape. To reach the cache with a minimal of bushwhacking, go to the western corner of field #6 (corner closest to cache coordinates) and enter the thinly foliated woods there...almost entirely open route to the cache from that point.
You are in search of a fairly large, pvc container. It is painted brown and covered with the usual natural camouflage to help disguise it. Both ends screw open to access the cache's contents. The log sheet is contained inside of a plastic bag to help keep it dry in the event the cache leaks a little. Forgot the pen for this one, so please bring your own. When you place it back, please make sure the ends are screwed down fully without forcing them. If you force them they will mash and the next person may not be able to open them.
The cache is located a short hike from several playing fields, so you may have to keep a weather eye out for a few curious passing muggles. Otherwise, you should have the location to yourself. If muggles are nearby, please be stealthy entering the woods especially so that they don't follow you and so this cache can survive.
Oh, and one last noteworthy bit of information. The symbol taped to the inside of the lid may come into play to help you find "Eris", the last (12th of 12) of the planet caches. Since many have not fared well, I have included a photo of all the symbols on the page for "Eris". Please reference it if the symbol has become damaged/missing in a few of the planets.
Enjoy!
