Cache is up for adoption. I no longer live in this area, and cannot
maintain this cache. Please contact me if you would like to adopt
it.
Cache is a camo'd sterno can, includes some minor swag, as it was
placed on a whim, haha. Should be pretty easy, Container will blend
in well at night. In an effort to promote more activity in this
area, I've hid the cache here, as the Palestine community is
currently undergoing a project to save the railroad! As noted on
the website: Severe budget cuts to Texas Parks and Wildlife, have
drastically impacted the Texas State Railroad and the adjacent Rusk
State Park. We lost a number of employees with the cutbacks, and
started the 2006 season without trains running from the Palestine
Depot. The TSRR was promised $500,000.00 NEW money from the
Legislative Budget Board to restart Palestine trains, but that
money never came. Instead, the Parks Dept is having to shuffle
money around within it's own department, and borrow $250,000.00
from the TSRR's 2007 budget in order to run the Palestine trains.
This is a deplorable way to run our state parks. We have been told
that the train will become a "static display" after this year,
shutting down our historic railroad, and laying off most of the
staff. We cannot allow this to happen. The TSRR is vital to our
economy and is the major tourist atraction in East Texas. We cannot
allow our vintage rail cars to sit and rust from neglect.
Please show your support, and pay all applicable fees to the park!
These fees help keep this park open, which is close to closing!
Please, sign the petition to keep this historic park, and keep us
from losing an important cultural piece of our history, and our
past!
