Geocache Description:

A Cache that reveals a little-known but amazing chapter in Australia’s history

The exploits of the Crusaders during the Middle Ages are generally known to most people. The attempts by the Knights of Europe to subdue the middle eastern countries, and to find the Holy Grail, ultimately came to nought. Now, through a recent archaeological breakthrough, a previously unknown Australian chapter in this saga has been revealed.

It is now known that one ship of brave Knights, instead of sailing to the middle east, actually found its way to Australia, and in fact to Melbourne no less!. An archaeological dig conducted over the last few years has revealed the remains of a stone castle right on the edge of Richmond, beside the Yarra River. Unfortunately all that has been found so far is the inner tower, or Keep, which still has the classical checker-board windows which allowed multiple archers to shoot arrows at the same time.

The records of the Crusaders reveal great battles against the Saracens, as well as mysterious people with dark skin, who were thought to have been from Africa. It can now be revealed that they were in fact Aboriginal Australians, who appear to have won this battle at least. No other remains of any sort have been found despite extensive searching.

There is a small but convenient carpark about 120m east of this cache. Please note that the road here is very busy in morning peak hour and take appropriate care.

The cache is a 500 mil cliptop container and should be easy to find,
