The Springdale Mill was in operation as a woolen mill from 1865 to 1905. The Metropolitan Water and Sewerage Board (a predecessor of the DCR) bought the mill in 1905 to safeguard the water quality of the new Wachusett reservoir, and shortly after, the dam was broken and the buildings were razed.
