Geocache Description:

The coordinates are averages of several readings. GPS coverage may be bad because of the cover so you may have to expand your area and "think like a cacher"

You will be looking for a cache container about 2 ½” X 8”. Permission has been granted by the land owner to hunt for this cache but nothing else so please respect those wishes.

This cache is located near a marker commemorating the first homestead in Hamilton County.

Jarvil Chaffee and his wife came from Wisconsin by team and wagon in 1866 just a few months before Nebraska was admitted as a state and three years before Hamilton County was organized. They settled just to the West of this location in June, of 1866. Mr. Chaffee built a dug-out which was the first residence constructed in the county, its size being ten feet by twelve feet and near the forks of the Blue River. It was the first evidence of habitation in Hamilton County. The location of the first homestead is just South of N40 42.765 W97 59.179.
