Geocache Description:

the cache is hidden along garden highway southeast of yuba city. do not park in the bicycle lane, turn onto eureka drive nearby. when you find the cache, you may exclaim "eureka." when you log your find, tell me if you ever saw or heard of the man described below. do you have a reaction to any of his statements?

i was born william claude dukenfield in 1880 in philadelphia and became a vaudeville juggler in my youth. i became a sarcastic comedian on stage, the radio, and in the early movies. i often portrayed a witty drunk--a man who hated children, dogs, and women, unless they were the wrong sort of women. will rogers once said that "thank god he's a comic. had he been a statesman he'd have plunged the world into total war." some of my comments are listed below. who am i?

1. never give a sucker an even break.
2. a woman drove me to drink. it's the one thing i'm indebted to her for.
3. i am free of all prejudice. i hate everyone equally.
4. a rich man is but a poor man with money.
5. don't worry about your heart, it will last as long as you live.
6. horse sense is the thing a horse has which keeps it from betting on people.
7. hollywood is the gold cap on a tooth that should have been pulled out years ago.
8. i like thieves. some of my best friends are thieves. why, just last week we had the president of the bank over for dinner.
9. marriage is better than leprosy because it's easier to get rid of.
10. someone asked me "how do you like children?" i replied "fried."
