Geocache Description:

The "Down The Old Ox Road" cache (GCY5E7) will get you to the parking lot, while this cache will get you hiking down the trail. This cache is located about 0.6 miles from the parking area. Enjoy your walk in the park, but remember to stay on the trails.

This is the site of a Civil War battle that took place between May 23 and 26, 1864. Ten interpretive signs along what was once Ox Road recount the battle. Under the command of Robert E. Lee, who was ill during the battle, Confederate troops halted the Union advance but failed to give chase, thereby allowing the Union to regroup and move toward Richmond. The Battle of Ox Ford unfolds as you hike through this Hanover County Park. Interpretive signs describe the events of the battle in chronological order, highlighting the personalities, tactical strategies, and logistical constraints that shaped this battle.
