A Chimney Too Far...! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been in need of care and maintenance for some time and as the owner has not responded to my note I am archiving it.

Guidelines:**You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing.**

If you wish to contact me about this cache please use my Email address below my signature and quote the GC number of the cache. Please note this system is not infallible and I may miss any such mail.

Geocache Description:

This is our first cache and an easy one to kick us off. It's a short walk from the pub but the track was a little muddy when we set this up, so don't wear your nice new shoes. GPS was behaving badly but should be like falling off a log for most.

The Chimney in the cache name refers to the now demolished one at the cement works that you could see from the cache site.
Blue Circle Cement works was opened in 1965 and at it's height directly employed around 450 people. The works produced 4 leading brands of cement namely OPC, Ferrocrete, Sulphacrete and Phoenix Cement. These products were transported by both road and rail from the site and were shipped across Europe and as far a field as Africa, Borneo, Malaysia and the USA to name but a few. During the Falklands conflict cement was boxed up in special crates on site, which were then parachuted onto the islands for use by the military.
Unfortunately the works closed in 2003 and demolition began in 2004 the chimney which rose 415ft above the valley floor was brought down in November 2005.

The Cache contains:
Torch karabiner, toy duck, keyring, xmas fridge magnet, Toronto Geocoin.
