Geocache Description:

Opened in 1948, Blacklick Woods is the oldest and one of the busiest Metro Parks.

Blacklick Metro Park

The details of Blacklick Woods Metro Park can be found on http://www.metroparks.net/default.aspx . Please review this website for information about park hours of operation and review the associated detailed map of the park. Trail maps are also available within the park. The forest areas of this 643-acre park are laced with trails that wind through a swamp forest with white oak, pin oak and white ash along with red maple, red elm, shagbark, butternut hickory and dogwood. Blacklick Creek flows south along the eastern boundary of the park very near to the cache site. The park features more than six miles of trails for hiking, biking and jogging.

The cache was specifically placed to cause cachers to hike the loop on the eastern end of the multi-purpose trail to a point very near Blacklick Creek, the park’s namesake. Although the picture hints will take you in a counter clockwise direction, it can also be reached traveling clockwise as well. The distance from car to cache is 0.5 miles if you park in the easternmost parking area by the Nature Center. I recommend that you bring a camera with you when doing this cache, especially if you continue your visit by hiking the trails within the Walter A. Tucker Nature Preserve where you will find another geocache that is cleverly hidden. This Columbus Metro Parks CMP-Blacklick Woods cache is placed with the permission of park management using Permit Number 01-02-06, a requirement for metro park caches. The cache itself is a 5x8x3” camouflaged plastic container with logbook and pen and has room for small trade items. As this is one of the busier Columbus Metro Parks, stealth will normally be required. Please view the pictures for hints to the cache location.
