Geocache Description:

If you are fond of fungus, this is the place for you. You shouldn't have any trouble finding the cache once you get there. In summer the ground cover is dense and poison ivy is prolific along the edge of the woods. Ticks, chiggers, snakes, etc. are quite possible (except in winter). Please tread lightly and try to leave the area just as you found it, so others can enjoy as well. Please leave the turtle shell as it is part of the ambiance.

If the gate to the park is closed, you may park outside and walk in.

The fungi (singular fungus) are a kingdom of organisms. Fungi are heterotrophic (consumers in the food chain) and digest their food externally, absorbing nutrient molecules into their cells. Yeasts, molds, and mushrooms are examples of fungi. The branch of biology involving the study of fungi is known as mycology. Fungi often have important symbiotic relationships with other organisms, including most plants. Fungi are also used extensively by humans: yeasts are responsible for fermentation of beer and bread, and mushroom farming and gathering is a large industry in many countries. Fungi were originally classified as plants, however they have been since separated and are now thought to be more closely related to animals than to plants.
---excerpts from Wikipedia

Some fungi are very poisonous to humans, so if you are not very knowledgeable about them, I recommend you do not eat or even touch any that you find here.

This geocache is a work of procrastination. I scouted this spot in March of 2006 with DrLedoux. I snapped the fungus photo above in Nov of 2006. There were many fungi colonies growning on a fallen tree just south of the cache. There was not as much ground cover at that time. Well I finally got around to hiding a cache here, four years later.
