We like to hike or run on the trails at the lake but before we bought a Park Pass, we’d go in the free way – on foot. We also take the high school cross country team we coach on this run. The team names the trails and they call this one “Cardiac”. Enjoy the view!
Be aware there is no parking on any of the streets close to the lake. Cars parked will be ticketed There is a place to park near our Lakewood Cache, GCXDCK, at the beginning of a shady, paved, public access trail to Granite Bay. Take the paved public access trail .5 miles to where the trail splits and changes to packed decomposed granite. Then look at the arrow. At times the trail is single track but most of it is wide and easy to travel though one might get a little winded. Beware of the usual poison oak and snakes. Runners, hikers and equestrians share this trail. Dogs allowed on leash. Cross carefully at the crosswalk. If you prefer a shorter route and lower point rating, drive in the gate and pay the fee. Cache is a camoed small with room for some trade items.
