A regular sized cache off the North Country Trail.
Welcome to Kimball Pines Park. A county park, it has a couple of picnic pavillions, restroom facilities (if you can catch them open. I have yet to...), a disc golf course, and a stretch of the North Country Trail. The park also hosts the SilverLeaf Renaissance faire for a couple of weekends in the summer, late July or August. While there is no entry charge into the park most of the year, there maybe during the faire. I'd check ahead to be safe. The park is open from 8 am to 8 pm. The entrance is behind the Medical Care Facility, a sign should tell you where to turn in.
The cache is an ammo box-sized lock-n-lock, cammoed, off the North Country Trail. I've found the main trail a little difficult to find sometimes, you can access it from either the area of N 42* 18.037 W 085* 07.679 (from the south, walk down the road from the parking area) or N 42* 18.188 W 085* 07.689 from the north, it’s a small trail which will take you to the main trail. Either way, look for the blue trail markers on the main trail.
This is a beautiful park, even though they’ve cut down trees and opened up a lot of the north end of the park for use. The main trail area is still very heavily wooded – once you enter good luck getting a good signal. There were places where my GPSr was only willing to commit to triple digit accuracy! It swore to 15' accuracy at the cache site, though. Enjoy the hike, bring the family, maybe eat some lunch while you’re here. And happy hunting!
