Geocache Description:

For all those 80’s music fans, this cache has nothing to do with Bruce Springsteen. It is in fact named after the final destination, a shipwreck of an interesting ship called the Boss 400 in Maori Bay. Apparently the seabed is strewn with forklifts and bulldozers etc - an interesting dive!

Allow about 4 hours for the hike, plus some time to relax and enjoy destination. Bring plenty of water, as there is none en route. Although the walk does not have much in the way of steep gradients, I gave it a 4 star rating as it can be quite tricky to find the correct path at times, and there could be some crawling under low trees, some slightly slippery slopes, and some beating about the bush. That said, it is not really a tough route and should be easily done by most.

Park at the Hout Bay dunes at S 34 01.637 E 018 20.516. Head over the saddle, and turn left onto rocket road, and head all the way to the end (S 34 01.829 E 018 19.190).

From here there are 3 paths. Which is the correct one, I have no idea! The top one seemed to be blocked off, so we headed down to the blockhouse, and turned vaguely left and up past the blockhouse. After a while we hit a very small scree slope where the path vanished, so we headed up the slope and refound the path.

Whatever path you decide to take, I do know that you must not head down to the sea, but stay fairly high up. If you follow our path, you might end up at S 34 02.028 E 018 18.945. Check out the big fat rock bunny here, leaning against his throne and facing the sea!

After a while, you might hit a seemingly dead end at S 34 02.181 E 018 18.858. Simply clamber up the small cliff face in front of you and the path resumes, and its plain sailing from here.

Please note there are plenty of ticks along this path, so if you don’t want your dogs covered, leave them at home, although the ticks are mainly near the first section when you hit the rough.

My dog got a bit hot and bothered while doing this walk, and had to be carried the last 2km back to the car – good exercise for the arms!

As usual, for safety reasons, please don't do this cache alone, as it is fairly secluded, and there have been incidents on route before.
