Mind the Muggles!

South Hill Park

You are now standing very close to where the old Quelm Lane used to run.  It is said that dogs will not walk the route of Quelm Lane.

Reportedly on dark and misty nights a ghostly rider on a large black horse is said to ride the length of Quelm Lane scooping up any children that were out after their curfew never to be seen again!  Be aware if out night caching as the rider may well mistake you too!

Quelm Lane means Hangman’s Lane and it is thought that the previously mentioned ghost is the apparition of a hanged highwayman off to seek his riches again.

If you have a few spare moments you may wish to visit the Quelm Stone at N 51* 25.807 W 000* 44.019.  This is believed to be the location of the gibet itself!
