This cache is smaller than a 35mm film canister on a section of the RTP walking path.
The walking trail in Research Triangle Park winds throughout the park and provides recreation to many employees of the RTP area. This section of walking path is across the street from the Triangle Life Science Center, a vacant facility that was formerly the Environmental Research Center of the US Environmental Protection Agency. This facility, nicknamed the "Fortress" because of its distinct architecture, was home to the US EPA in Research Triangle Park for many years until the Agency moved to its new campus, a state of the art facility built with green technology and powered with green power.
This cache will require a short walk on the path since parking at the cache on Highway 54 is not feasible. It is an excellent lunchtime cache to those that enjoy a walk during the day.
***Update*** The old ERC building is being partially demolished.
***Update*** 11 July 07: Demolishing continues. I've added some additional pictures provided by bnanax2.
***Update*** Sept 07: Well, it is gone. All that is left of the old fortress is smoothed dirt and the administrative building behind it. Fairwell good fortress.
