Sunset Strip Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

ePeterso2: [I have been checking in on this one as the string of DNFs has increased. It has been there the entire time.

Until today, at least. I checked in on it this morning, and the cache is now gone.

Since I placed this cache, I've become more and more interested in placing puzzle caches and less and less interested in placing traditional ones. As my old traditional caches have disappeared, I've been archiving them. This cache will be no exception to that rule.

If you've looked for this cache and didn't find it, here's the solution to it:

]The name "Sunset Strip" is not just the name of the street - it was also a hint to the container. The cache was a business card sized magnetic strip. The location was on top of the steel crossbeam in the pavilion closest to the posted coordinates. It was not visible ... the only way to find it was by feeling the top of the crossbeam.[

Thanks to everyone who found it ... sorry to those who didn't!

Geocache Description:

When the community of what is now the city of Sunrise was first established, it was a 55-and-up retirement community named "Sunset". The developer envisioned it as a way to cater to the growing population of retirees heading into South Florida.

However, the when the city incorporated, its residents decided that the name "Sunset" had too negative of a connotation. In 1961, the city incorporated as "Sunrise Golf Village" to convey a brighter outlook, and in 1971 the city officially shortened its name to simply "Sunrise".

Almost all of the old signs on stores and plazas that referenced "Sunset" are gone. The only major landmark that retains the old name is the road "Sunset Strip" that runs through the heart of the original community.

This cache will take you to a small park wedged in between two shopping plazas in the commercial center of the original downtown area of Sunset. There's a lovely fountain and benches nearby, and a few good places to grab lunch in easy walking distance.

There's only room for a log sheet in the container, so bring your own favorite writing utensil. Tree cover might be a problem at the location, so give your GPS time to settle down on a solution. Have fun searching ... it's a "target-rich environment", so to speak.
