Geocache Description:

Nevada Eleven is in a nice park with lots of space for the kids and a playground nearby. Bring a ball and take some time to relax. Please report all DNFs and remember to take care with the cache replacement and seal the logbook so it remains watertight. FTF may take home a stack of cash care of the ‘scratchie’ inside.

The History of this area will show why the cache name is important. It plays a part in the oldest existing golf club in Australia. In 1882 the first course was laid out and at that time there was no required number of holes for a golf course and there is no record of how many there were but 'The Links', so called, were situated East of Anzac Parade on the edge of what is now Centennial Park.

In 1884 a visiting Englishman Mr.C.H.Cadogan presented a trophy to be played for in a bi annual event that is now the oldest golfing trophy in Australia and is still part of the competition at The Australian Golf Club named the Cadogan Cup.

In 1888 there was enormous pressure from a ladies cycling group that led to a road being placed through the middle of the land and as a result the course had to be abandoned. Then in 1895 eleven holes were created in this area "Queens Park" naming their clubrooms 'Nevada'. This was only in place for three years until their lease expired.

The final location for the Australian Golf Club is in the suburb of Kensington and to this day is one of the finest courses in Australia.
