Ebor Ring Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.

Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,

Geocache Description:

A straightforward cache near the northern ring-road around York.

This is a small cache (700 ml round ‘Lock and Lock’ container).
When placed it contained only a log book and pencil and a newly released Travel Bug. Due to its size there are currently no items for exchange. I had originally intended to place a much larger container but due to technical difficulties (you’ll understand when you find the cache) I had to settle for a smaller one.

There are several ways to approach this cache but we recommend combining the search with a walk alongside the River Foss. There is ample parking about half a mile away at All Saints Church in Huntington which can be reached down a narrow lane from the ‘old village’ (grid ref. SE 615563). There are footpaths on both banks of the river and there are several bridges which can be used to make circular walks of various lengths. Apart from the bridge by the church, you can cross at the ring-road bridge (careful with the traffic here) or at a footbridge about a quarter mile further upstream. The footbridge is not marked on some OS maps.

The riverside footpaths can be muddy in wet weather and some parts can occasionally be flooded if the Foss gets too high but the cache is accessible regardless of the state of the river. The muddiest part is usually where the path passes under the ring road but you can use the bridge to avoid the worst of the mud.
