Geocache Description:

A small cache situated at Three Shire Heads where the counties of Cheshire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire meet.

There is parking less than a mile from the cache on a small road at N53 12.743 W002 00.055. You could make a decent day's walking and park at Cat and Fiddle,Derbyshire Bridge, Gradbach or Wildboarclough and take in some other caches in this lovely area.

Walking boots are recommended. Be prepared - remember that the weather can change at any time of year.

Three Shire Heads is not only the meeting point of the county boundaries but also a number of packhorse routes meet here. It must have been the "Spaghetti Junction" of its day.

Take time to look at the packhorse bridge which crosses the River Dane before falling by way of a waterfall into Panniers Pool.If you examine under the bridge you'll see it has been extended to allow two-way traffic of horses and their panniers.

This position at the junction of three counties used to make Three Shire Heads a favoured venue for illegal activities such as cockfighting: if the police of one county arrived on the scene the baddies had only to step across one or other border to avoid jurisdiction.

Three Shire Heads is popular with walkers, scramblers, horse riders and mountain bikers so stealth will be needed when retrieving the cache.
