Geocache Description:

Drive a scenic 3.8 mile 4WD road, then hike a couple miles miles down a deep, narrow canyon almost to Saguaro Lake.  Very enjoyable trip!  Fascinating range of geology through the area, especially in the canyon.

This area is part of the Bulldog Canyon Off-Highway Area.   A free permit is required for vehicle access through the locked gates.  Get permit from the USFS office at 5140 E. Ingram St, Mesa (just south of McKellips and Higley).  See my website for a detailed map.

Once you have the gate combination, turn west off Apache Trail just north of the Needle Vista Viewpoint.  Keep left on this 4WD road after 1.2 miles, right after another 1.2 miles, then park after another 1.4 miles.  Hike down the canyon about 2 miles then climb a slanting rock shelf on the right.  Cache is about 30' above the canyon floor.

Willow Springs Canyon as it looks from Saguaro Lake.  If you are thinking about going by boat, read the first log for this cache and you may change your mind.
There are striking chartreuse hills colored by lichens growing on limestone outcrops.
Photo taken from the cache - about 30' above the canyon floor to be above flash floods.  Follow a slanting rock shelf up to the cache.

The canyon depth made me wonder about the coordinates, but the photo and "slanting rock shelf" should do the trick.
