Liberton Anti-Aircraft Battery Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Cache Hit: This was never the best of locations, mainly because you can't get that close to the Anti Aircraft battery, so I'm archiving it (probably at the relief of the people who live in the house on the corner!!!). Many thanks to everyone who visited!

Geocache Description:

One of a number of caches placed to co-incide with the Hogmanay Hang-out event.

While researching information for the Mortonhall Army Camp cache, I discovered this impressive anti-aircraft battery. Unfortunately its on private land and therefore difficult to get close. However I thought a cache was worthwhile, at least for the event.

The battery is fairly well preserved in fields behind Tower Farm (now used for horses). It consists of four gun emplacements which mounted 3.7 inch guns. Part of the accommodation for the battery is now used by Liberton Kennels, and during the war an additional 18 huts were located between the cache site and the battery.

The cache is a short walk from the Stable Bar. Alternatively I have added a waypoint for parking a short walk to the east of the cache, from which the cache might be suitable for wheelchairs (although I gave it a terrain rating of 1.5 as there are lots of potholes to negotiate).
