Geocache Description:

Another great cache to find in Rowher Flats OHV area. This in an ammo can along the Texas Canyon trail. 4x4 and a high clearance vehicle are recommended.

Why all the devotion to the state? What makes Texas so special that so many songs, so many people, and even our current president (for obvious reasons) so love it? Well, Texans pride themselves in a history of tradition. And lets admit it, Texas is filled with history.

The word Texas comes from the word "teysha" meaning "hello friend" in the language of the Caddo Indian tribes and the state's motto is "Friendship." Sprinkled with a bit of old-fashioned Western Grit, in Texas you can experience everything from cowboys to high tech urban sprawls.

One of the most widely known events in Texas history is the Battle of the Alamo. Immigrants settling in the area revolted against Mexican rule, and declared Texas to be an independent republic. Immediately Santa Anna, the Dictator of Mexico, gathered a large army, and invaded Texas. David Crockett found that the Mexican army was marching toward San Antonio, with an old Spanish fort, the Alamo, located nearby. Soon Santa Anna approached with his army, took possession of the town, and besieged the fort. The walls of the Alamo were battered and riddled and Santa Anna commanded that they be stormed. Davy Crockett wounded in a dozen places, fought a courageous battle to his death. Santa Anna had won this battle, but his victory was short lived. Sam Houston took command of the forces and he and his men charged the Mexican hosts with the cry of "Remember the Alamo." Almost immediately, the Mexicans were overthrown with terrible slaughter and the freedom of Texas was won at a blow.

Along with that historical battle, Texas is also famous for its cowboys like Pecos Bill and outlaws like El Muerto. These legends all live on in the history of the great southwest

Let's not forget the phrase included in the title of the cache. Bob Bullock was Texas' 38th Lieutenant Governor. He served two terms from January 1991 to January 1999, when he retired and left public office. He is considered one of the most outstanding Texas political leaders of the 20th Century. He was renowned for his politically incorrect speaking style, but also for his trademark closing line "God bless Texas."

Hope you enjoyed my slightly abridged version of Texas history. The cache you seek is filled with lots of Texas souvenir pieces. Please only trade with the theme or not at all. Thanks for visiting.
