Honor The Brave Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

lpyankeefan: Going over my currently active geocaches and after much consideration I've decided to cull the herd a bit as it were.

I really, Really, REALLY liked this cache history, hide and placement. Alas as time has gone on the original hiding spot has deteriorated. For the time being to keep this one from showing up in people's pocket querys I'm going to archive it.

As to this cache, in the words of Sting "Consider me gone, gone, gone........." Thanks to those who have searched for this cache over the years, alas it is no more!

Geocache Description:

Part of the Mount Olivet Cemetery Series. This cache is located near the grave sites of fallen Civil War soldiers.

Located along the back of Mount Olivet Cemetery is a memorial to the fallen. Side by side slumber many who fell in the Battle of Monocacy and at Antietam during the Civil War. They were buried by their Confederate comrades right after the battle. They remained in those graves, unmarked, and unknown, until about 1880, when the Frederick Chapters of the Daughters of The Confederacy employed a party of men to transfer them to a mass grave in Mount Olivet.

Located at the above coordinates is a granite marker dedicated to those Confederate dead of long ago. Using numbers engraved into the marker you will glean the final resting location of a small cache.

The final cache is located at N 39* 24. ABC W 077* 24. DDE where:

A = the third digit of the only year noted on the monument minus the fourth digit of the only year noted on the monument.

B = the third digit in the number of unknown soldiers who are buried here.

C = the first digit in the number of unknown soldiers who are buried here.

D = the number on the monument denoting the day that the brave soldiers fell.

E = the fourth digit in the only year noted on the monument minus the first digit in the only year noted on the monument.

The final cache you seek may be small in size, but please remember to respect the fallen. There is NO need to disturb the graves of the fallen nor their markers. Sometimes the cache you seek is hidden in plain sight. PLEASE be sure to rehide this cache as well as or better than you found it so that others may seek it after you.
